Dear members and friends of the STA

The Swiss Society for Technology and the Army (STA) is an association and sees itself as an independent link between the army, procurement authorities, business and science. The STA promotes dialogue between the interest groups in this area and makes an active contribution to deepening mutual understanding. This is particularly true with regard to the planning, development, procurement, use and disposal of goods and services required to implement Swiss security and armaments policy.

The STA was founded in 1955 and has around 400 members. It aims to be an established partner of the Swiss security network and is committed to

  • the maintenance and further development of appropriate core defence capabilities in Switzerland
  • promoting national and international exchange of information on security and armaments policy issues
  • the contacts, exchange of information and opinion formation between the army, procurement authorities, business and science
  • dialogue with the public and political authorities.

The following 5 postulates of the STA replace the previous 7 theses from 2016 and are primarily based on the "Principles of the Federal Council on the armaments policy of the DDPS" of October 24, 2018 and the "Armaments Strategy" of the DDPS of January 1, 2020. The STA is the only association that focuses on the planning and implementation of the specifications made in these documents by continuously monitoring them and taking a clear position on them. These efforts will be described briefly and succinctly in the following 5 postulates and worked on together with you on our platforms.

With this brochure, we would like to encourage you to contribute your own thoughts and to take part in the dialogue in our society. We hope you find it an interesting read and look forward to exchanging ideas with you!

Kind regards, Your STA Board
